I’ve been staying up way too late, sleeping like shit, and waking up way too fucking early. As such, I’m super tired tonight, plus the Yankees are driving me crazy. So, I’m going to keep tonight short and sweet. Tonight I’m going to be talking about Krooked Ken. Krooked Ken currently owns and tattoos out of Black Anchor Tattoo in Denton, MD. He is also an owner of Powerhouse Tattoo Co. in Monteclair, NJ. I had the pleasure of being tattooed by Krooked Ken last summer at the Roc City Tattoo Expo. He’s a really nice guy, easy to talk to, and definitely told me a couple of dirty jokes-all the ingredients that make for a good tattoo experience.
If you’re not familiar with Ken or his work, you’re definitely missing out. Krooked Ken has a style that is reminiscent of straight-up, old school, traditional tattooing. From Ken’s website:
Krooked Ken of Black Anchor Tattoo in Historic Caroline County Denton Maryland specializes in the traditional Coleman style of tattooing Krooked Ken is known for providing tattoos of yesteryears today. With heavy black shading and bold solid color these are the tattoos that will last a lifetime, the way tattoos were meant to be. A Tattooer since 1994 he has proven to be a well rounded artist that is capable of many styles such as black and grey and japanese. Ken and his work have been published many times in International publications and has won numerous awards for his achievements. In his journey to keep the old school of tattooing alive he has collected vintage memorabilia from many of the great tattooers past and present. Knowing who and what came before him and why has made Krooked Ken one of the most sought after traditional tattooers of today.
Here’s some of his work:
I love that Krooked Ken has done a bunch of tattoos with his face in them; it’s pretty funny. As you can see, his tattoos are everything you’d come to expect from a traditional tattooer. His work is truly great, and he’s without a doubt one of my current favorite tattooers. Check out Krooked Ken’s Tumblr. You can also check out more of his work on his website, and if you have instagram, his name on there is Krooked Ken. Ken will be tattooing at the Electric City Tattoo Convention in Scranton, PA from April 27-29, as well as the Roc City Tattoo Expo, here in Rochester, from May 4-6. Here’s an interview that Ken did with Shane Cashman for Swallows and Daggers last year at the Roc City Tattoo Expo. Also, Ken’s a pretty badass dude and does a lot to help out with March of Dimes through his Tattooing to Save Babies. Check that shit out here, and keep it in mind for sometime later in the year. Ken’s a cool dude, that does really great tattoos, so you should definitely get tattooed by him. Thanks for reading, and enjoy your night.
